Nothing says summer like splashing in your local pool!
Pools open this Saturday!
Starting this Saturday, June 16, Verdun's four pools will be open. There are two pools on Verdun's mainland and two on L'Ile-des-Soeurs.
It's expected to be a hot summer and that means municipal facilities will be busy. Last year, a study in a Montreal daily paper didn't give a passing grade to certain Verdun pools, but administrators are making sure to apply the regulations as strictly as possible, with regards to water quality.
People will be required to take a shower before entering the pool and the rules will be stricter, regarding what drinks and food they can bring to the pool.
A contract was awarded to a specialized firm to conduct bacteriological tests throughout the season. Lifeguards have also been trained to ensure that they adequately know the provincial standards, with regards to water analyses. The level of chlorine in the water will depend greatly on the number of people in the pool.
The borough has specified that nothing negative took place at Verdun pools last year, other than a strong odor of chlorine, during certain hours of the day.
Borough pools are open every day, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., if the temperature allows. During extremely hot days however, they may stay open later. Unless the schedule changes, municipal pools are expected to stay open until August 11.
