Viaduct near West Vancouver Park to be inspected
The viaduct located near West Vancouver Park is on a watch list of bridges and overpasses that are slated for a more detailed inspection. The City of Montreal made that decision after a verification of all viaducts and bridges located on its territory.
Until the inspections take place, the structures will remain closed to heavy trucks, meaning that vehicles will continue to travel on them, but that trucks transporting exceptionally heavy loads will be barred.
Trucks transporting soil or construction materials are not targeted by this ban. The City is preventing only trucks that transport extremely heavy loads, such as pieces of machinery or equipment to travel on these bridges and overpasses. Drivers will need a special permit to transport such materials and Transport Ministry inspectors will be watching.
A few weeks ago, some @Ri>Magazine<@$p> readers had expressed concern over cracks and some debris being witnessed at the viaduct near West Vancouver Park. The Verdun borough had made the appropriate inspections and it was following these verifications that traffic was closed to heavy trucks.
It's important to remind everyone that this is a preventative measure and that all other vehicles (trucks, buses and cars) can travel freely, while pedestrians can walk under the viaduct without being worried.
While going to press, the City of Montreal had not issued an official press release with regards to the West Vancouver Park viaduct. All the information obtained for this article was given to us by the Verdun borough.
