Zoé Edger-Lacoursière returns from Jeux du Québec with gold
Young Island tennis player excels in her sport
Young Island athlete, Zoé Edger-Lacoursière, just came back from the Jeux du Québec in Sept-Îles with a gold medal around her neck. The 10-year-old tennis player helped her team (Lac Saint-Louis) nab first place.
It's the first time in the history of the Games that such a young age category (9-10 years old) has even existed and young Zoé had to rise to the occasion to help her team, since another athlete in her age category, wasn't present at the Games.

Her team competed against and beat Laval (4-2), Chaudière-Appalaches (6-3) and finally triumphed over Outaouais, on Monday, August 6, in the semi-final, to win the gold medal in the B division, with a score of 5-4.

All the other members of the Lac Saint-Louis team reside in the West Island, but Zoé was lucky to have Island tennis instructor, Jean-David Blanchet, with her, since he was one of the two coaches accompanying the young athletes.

Young Zoé also won the l'Esprit Sportif, ca compte! contest, open to all athletes 12 years and younger. For the contest, she had to write a short article, explaining how she feels about the competitive spirit in her sport. In her article, published in the Games newspaper, Zoé shared her belief in giving 100%, even if victory isn't always guaranteed. She also stated that she never forgets to thank all her coaches, the volunteers and those who support her. Zoé has enjoyed the personal support of her parents, Sonya Lacoursière and Norman Edger, who are always present at her games, along with Zoe's sister, Mia.

Zoé is a very sociable young girl, who's full of energy. On top of training seven hours a week, at the Nuns' Island Tennis Club, she also plays soccer, with an Island team, sails, swims, and enjoys downhill and cross-country skiing. She also is a member of the Verdun Figure Skating Club, the Gymnastics Gym Flex-Art Club and the Massiwippi Riding Club. She's currently training for a tennis tournament in Gray Rocks, on September 1 and 2.

When she's involved in sports, the young athlete also enjoys dabbling in the arts, takes dance and performance lessons at the Louise Lapierre Dance School and the Verdun Circus School, as well as has been playing the piano since the tender age of four. She has been a student at The Study, a private all-girls school, in Westmount, since kindergarten.

There's no denying there's a bright future for this dynamic ten-year-old and we wish her the best in her upcoming competitions, but as Zoé herself said, no matter the outcome, what's most important is giving 100%. We have no doubt that she will…
