A passion for fashion at Le Village
Plein-Sud boutiques feature their fall and winter collections in style
There's no denying Island residents like to do things with panache, so when Florence Malka, the owner of three stores in Le Village (Plein-Sud Femme, Plein-Sud Homme and Footaise Chaussures) wanted to feature her new fall and winter collections, what better way could there be than their very own fashion show? How about a fashion show featuring… Island residents as runway models?
Despite the downpour that was falling during rush hour this past Tuesday, September 11, at 6:30 p.m. a large group of friends, family and Island residents came out to indulge in some wine and cheese and eagerly took their seats for the first ever fashion show, organized by Plein-Sud Femme, Plein-Sud Homme and Footaise Chaussures, all located in Le Village (40, Place du Village).
Island residents moonlighting as models
Organized and orchestrated by none other than energetic Island resident, Marie Hudon, the fashion show featured regular folks who responded to Marie's call to take part in the whole extravaganza.
As they strutted down the makeshift runway, some looked completely at ease in Plein-Sud's classy, contemporary and elegant clothes, others looked shy and nervous, while a select few seemed to have perhaps taken a particular liking to modelling as a second career by the time the show was over, winking at the crowd and hamming it up for the Magazine's photographer.
As one would expect, with neighbours and friends in the crowd, the show was a fun, laughter-filled event.
What I didn't expect is that I would like the collection featured as much as I did. Comfortable, classy, edgy, funky, elegant… one by one, the Island models came out modelling a variety of clothes for all occasions and all ages. The shoes, boots and accessories they were wearing were also part of the boutique's inventory and all top of the line and the latest fashion. Buffalo, Anne Kleine, Nine West, Dekker, Horst, Modango, J.C. Raggs, were just some of the designer labels featured that evening.
When the show came to an end, a number of people entered the boutiques, eager to take advantage of the 15% discount on their new collection for that evening. Boutique staff (Janine, Vanessa, Zahra and Debie) were on hand to help everyone and Florence's adorable young daughters were also there, assisting their mom in any which way they could.
The Island supermodels
The nine Island residents who were gracious enough (and adventurous enough) to accept Marie Hudon's invitation were: Alexandre Royer, Dominique Proteau, Gaétan Bouthillier, Brigitte Mathieu, Richard Neil, Chantal Pétit, Pierre Druelle, Danielle Béland and Samuel Descoteaux-Fréchette.
Kudos to them and to Marie Hudon for organizing this fun event. Let's hope this is the first of many more fashion shows to come!
