Registration for 2008 soccer season

It’s important not to wait till the last minute because places are limited. Young residents aged 4 to 18, born before January 1, 1990 and December 31 2004 are eligible. Players already registered in a competitive league are, however, not eligible.

This year, 16 and 17 year old residents will be able to join a league. Individuals belonging to certain age groups will also be able to play in teams of 15 players each on the field. Other groups will play with seven players on a half field. The Association de Soccer Mineur de Verdun (ASMV) is mainly a recreational league, but inter-city meets will be organised during the season.

This is the fourth year that the sport in L'Île-des-Sœurs is being sponsored by the Association de Soccer Mineur de Verdun (ASMV) - Île des Sœurs division. This organisation is part of the Association régionale de soccer du Lac Saint-Louis and of the Fédération de soccer du Québec.

An electronic version of the registration form is now available on the web site www.soccerverdun.com. To facilitate processing, the form can be downloaded, filled in, printed and then signed, although residents can go in person during the registration sessions to have their registration approved and paid for. Interested parties must bring their Accès card which should be valid at the time of registration as well as the health insurance card in order to obtain a discount. Those who need to renew the Access card or obtain a new one for a player are requested not to wait until registration time to do so. Access cards are available at the reception desk of the Elgar Community Centre.

Training sessions for trainers will be offered again by the technical director of the association and Saturday training periods will be available for players. On request, two weeks will be set aside for rest and relaxation in the schedule this year. Hence there will be no meets from July 28 to August 8, a time in which the attendance rate is always low.

Good quality soccer fields are at the league’s disposal located at Adrien-Archambault park, with plenty of space to accommodate the needs of young athletes. Teams will meet twice a week beginning May 19. The schedule consists of eleven regular weeks, two weeks for a tournament, and a week for championship games. A grand traditional bash will end the season.

The league is always in need of volunteers who can give a bit of their time. The league’s requirements are varied: trainers, assistant trainers, supervision, coordination, distribution and administrative help. Individuals who are available at certain times can send an e-mail with their contact details to ids@soccerverdun.com. Volunteers can also apply in person with the organisers during registration time. Some businesses will pay for the registration fees of families in need. Eligibility criteria for financial assistance can be obtained upon request, or during the registration periods.

The season will start on May 19 and will end on September 6 with a great bash.
