Borough acts on APRIDS recommendation
In a letter addressed to Mayor Claude Trudel, the Association des propriétaires et résidants de L'Île-des-Sœurs expressed its delight with the Borough’s decision to act on of its recommendations. This recommendation was the need for the Borough to provide clearer indications for pedestrian and cycling paths at the exit points of rotary interchanges.
This recommendation was made in May 2007 during a meeting between APRIDS and Borough representatives which was held to discuss safety and security concerns as far as traffic was concerned. APRIDS had observed that pedestrians and cyclists were particularly vulnerable at the exit points of rotary interchanges because each of the paths was only indicated by a sign located at the right side of the exit. Because drivers entering these interchanges normally focus on vehicles coming from the left side, the signs on the right hand side don’t come into their normal sphere of vision. APRIDS representatives therefore made a strong recommendation that a second sign be placed on the left side of the exits as well. The association’s vice president, Pierre-G. Jobin, confirmed that he was satisfied with this change and is now a done thing, not only for the rotary interchanges but also for all areas in the island. APRIDS’ opinion is that this small cost will greatly improve the safety and security of pedestrians and cyclists. It was definitely an excellent decision taken by the Borough.
