Winter is going to bite at MainLine Theatre!
Off-Broadway Classic to premiere in Montreal
It’s clear right from the title that this isn’t your typical, safe suburban production. “Vampire Lesbians of Sodom may sound a little campy and a lot outrageous, but it still stands as among Off-Broadway’s longest-running successes, topping 1,700 performances during a non-stop five-year run. Now it’s Montreal’s turn to see what all the fuss is about.
From January 30 to February 17, MainLine Theatre (producer of the highly successful Montreal Fringe Festival since 1990) will be bringing local audiences “Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, written by Charles Busch, who has made a career of converting classy camp into cult classics. His 1960s beach film parody/Hitchcock Tiki-thriller, “Psycho Beach Party, made the leap from New York stage to Hollywood cult classic status in 2000.
Going straight for the jocular
Vampire Lesbians of Sodom chases the bitter rivalry between a vampire and her victim/vampire through the ages; from a botched virgin sacrifice in ancient Sodom, through the roaring ‘20s, to Las Vegas in the 1980s, where the two rivals finally decide to bury the hatchet and band together to quench their undying thirst, the laughter keeps on coming.

Needless to say, the production has outrageous costumes, farcical twists, silly song- and-dance numbers and non-stop hilarity. The New York Times compared “Vampire Lesbians in Sodom to the “Rocky Horror Picture Show, calling it “contagious; the kind of campy show that transforms everything it touches and attracts audiences that could take over and finish the performance if the cast walked out.
Where and when
Directed by Jeremy Hechtman and starring a number of Montreal up-and-comers, the production will run from January 30 to February 17 and promises to get your blood pumping and lighten up your winter-weary mood. MainLine Theatre is located at 3997 St. Laurent. Don’t miss the opportunity to see what the New York Times called a production, where “nothing escapes the demolition of laughter.

Psycho Beach Party Movie Night and Fundraiser
For those who can’t wait until the end of January to have some camp fun, MainLine Theatre is hosting a “Psycho Beach Party Movie Night and Fundraiser. A screening of Charles Busch’s cult classic will be taking place at 3937 St. Laurent, on Friday, January 19, at 9 p.m. Admission is $5. Come in costume and your popcorn is free.
