Fun and camaraderie are always part of the itinerary at the Camp Sportif de L'Ile-des-Soeurs.

After five years of organizing activities geared towards hyper 4-14-year-olds, one would think that co-owner Enrique Fidalgo would be tired. On the contrary however, the childish enthusiasm and energy of his young camp-goers must be rubbing off on him, because he could barely contain himself while describing this year's sports camp itinerary, at a recent meeting.
Gearing up for the sixth consecutive year, the highly successful Camp Sportif de L'Ile-des-Soeurs has nine weeks of sports-related activities, certain to keep Island kids occupied and happy this coming summer.
Soccer will be the star this year
While most of the usual offerings will be back again, like basketball, kickboxing, baseball, soccer, golf, tennis, swimming, kayaking and a variety of fun excursions to the Granby Zoo, Montreal's Old Port, the Super Aqua Club, etc. soccer will be the "vedette" of this year's itinerary.

"With Montreal hosting the Sub 20 Soccer World Cup this summer, many of our activities will revolve around that and play tribute to this popular sport," Enrique explains.
New touches will be added
Within the normal itinerary, special programs will be added for girls, such as cheerleading programs and hip-hop programs, as well as a touch-football program, which has proven very popular with the boys in the past, will be upgraded.
The summer camp starts on June 25 and continues until August 24, totaling nine weeks of activities, which the parents can take their pick from.

"Last year, camp enrollment increased by 25% every week and we fully expect that the same thing will happen this year," says Enrique, who along with co-owner Hugo Valladeres have managed to create a vibrant, fun camp that attracts kids, year after year.
Special thanks to local sponsors
"I'd like to extend a special thank you to our local sponsors, Provigo, Subway, Le Porte Panier Florist (Ana Tereza), Le Village and, most recently, Royal LePage, who have helped us make so many of our activities and events possible," said Enrique.

There is no denying this is a true Island success story. Eight percent of participants are Island children and the other 20% are from all over the world.

"Their parents come here on vacation or on work and they register their kids for a week or two," explains Enrique. "They're kids from South America, Europe, Brazil, Dubai and they add the benefit of allowing our local kids to interact and socialize with kids from another country, creating this multicultural environment."
Registration
Early registration will begin on March 5, at 9 a.m. at Gym I.D.S. and those interested can call 514-766-1236. Plans are also underway for an Open House sometime in early May and will be announced when finalized. There will also be a two-week program for 14-15 year-old teenagers, interested in working as junior assistant monitors at the camp. For more info, you can always log on www.campsportifids.com
