Canada Day celebrations in Verdun
'Colours of Folklore' at Parc Georges-O'Reilly
Island families who are looking for something to do on Canada Day, but not interested in fighting the crowds downtown or Old Montreal, can stay right here in their very own borough. The "Colours of Folklore" event, at Parc Georges-O'Reilly has a little bit of everything for the whole family.
On June 30 and July 1
What could be better than a multicultural celebration to mark Canada Day? "Colours of Folklore" is a two-day open air festival held at Parc Georges-O'Reilly, along the Verdun waterfront, on June 30 and July 1, from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The event will feature stage performers from many backgrounds and disciplines, fashion shows, a multicultural village under the tents featuring arts and crafts, concession stands and local businesses, a prize-filled lottery, dancing with the public, games for children and a "Top Hit Disco of the World". The extravaganza will end in the evening with a colourful display of fireworks.
Toronto, then Montreal and finally, Verdun
The event was first showcased in Toronto, on June 21 and then, on June 25, a gala concert was held in Salle Wilfrid Pelletier at Place des Arts, in downtown Montreal, where for the 4th consecutive year, Montreal area groups dazzled the crowd of 3,000 spectators.
The multicultural celebration will culminate this coming weekend, June 30 and July 1, in Verdun, where fun for the entire family is practically ensured.
Admission is free, so why not come out this coming weekend and have a good time, celebrating Canada in your very own borough?
The event is organized in collaboration with the Canadian Heritage department, the City of Montreal, the borough of Verdun and the Desjardins caisse populaire de Verdun.
Parc Georges-O'Reilly is located on LaSalle Blvd, between Rolland and Godin). The event takes place on June 30 and July 1, from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
