Last Wednesday night, the sensual, passionate moves of the Argentine tango were on the menu and a number of residents came out to willingly try out their moves.
So you think you can dance?
Salsa, tango, swing, and line dancing at Les Serres de Verdun
I don't know about you, but I've become addicted to TV reality show "So You Think You Can Dance", where a number of professional dancers compete for top honours and a one-year contract for a Celine Dion Vegas show.
Every week, these über-talented contestants perform routines in hip-hop, ballroom and contemporary and wow TV viewers across the country. It's also given many of us an itch to try out some of those moves and see whether or not "we can dance". The answer is most likely "no", but who said we can't have fun trying?
A summer of dancing at Les Serres de Verdun
Island residents who'd like to test their moves can take advantage of a wonderful idea: dancing at Les Serres de Verdun, located at 7000, boul. LaSalle. Unlike "Dancing With The Stars", residents can dance under the stars every single night of the week, thanks to a delightful summer program organized by the Arts and Culture department of the Verdun borough.
Every night, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., a different style of dance is featured. On Mondays, you can enjoy salsa, Tuesdays is for line dancing (bring your cowboy hats), Wednesday is sultry tango night, Thursday is reserved for square dancing, while Fridays are free for all sorts of dancing. On Saturdays, participants can enjoy ballroom dancing from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and on Sundays it's time for country dancing from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
This Saturday, August 11, starting at noon, Island residents can also take part in swing dancing.
With a different kind of music and dance style featured every night of the week, there's bound to be something here for everyone! And judging by the popularity of these nights, there certainly is! Young and old, from near and far, come to enjoy a wonderful carefree evening under the stars, dancing to the beat of summer.
