Recycling festival continues
Recycling success comes easy at L'Île-des-Soeurs
L'Île-des-Sœurs residents are very much aware about the environment and proved it during the Recycling festival, held Thursday, August 22 in Place de la Grande- Marguerite. Close to 200 people came to the kiosk and participated enthusiastically in the mini tests given to them.
As the event unfolded, Mayor Claude Trudel and other council members came to meet representatives of the brigade Alerte au recyclage (Recycling Alert). Mr. Trudel was supposed to stay only a few minutes, given his hectic schedule but he was carried away with the discussions and exchanges with his neighbours and ended up staying more than an hour at the kiosk.
The event’s success and that of the first festival held on August 9 served as incentives for the organizers to organize a third one which will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Promenade Wellington. The large tent of the borough will be set up on the intersection of Galt and Wellington streets on the 30th and 31st August from 14h to 19h and on Saturday, from the 1st of September from 13h to 17h.
Verdun residents will therefore have a last chance this season to test their knowledge about recycling by joining one of the activities on the agenda: a choice between a timed sorting out of recyclable and non-recyclable waste and a short questionnaire on recycling. At the end of this event, a framed certificate entitled recycleur émérite (recycler emeritus) will be randomly drawn and then given to a selected person who participated in the Festival.
Like the previous festivals, the brigade Alerte au recyclage will be on site to provide information to residents on recycling methods. It should be noted that recycling has been mandatory in Verdun borough since 2004.
Please note that the event will be cancelled if it rains.
