SPCA Montérégie gives neglected horses a second chance!
The SPCA Montérégie is one of the few SPCAs in the Province of Quebec that

is no-kill, we provide animals with shelter, freedom from fear and pain and

all the love we can - with no time limit.

In March of this year, The SPCA Montérégie responded to a call and seized a

barn full of hungry, thirsty, neglected horses in Boucherville. Included

in the barn were a mare and her one-week-old foal who had a severe

open wound on her leg that was badly infected.

If the SPCA Montérégie didn't step in when they did, the foal would have

died as she needed immediate medical attention; the foal was sent to

St. Hyacinthe Veterinary Clinic “Faculte de medicine veterinarie St. Hyacinthe” to be put on IV fluids to save her life. Shortly after, the mare was sent over to St. Hyacinthe vet clinic so she could continue nurse her baby where it was touch and go for a while, but the foal survived!

All the horses were sent to different foster homes and rescues, however

saving the life of the foal did have a price, the total bill was over

$3,500. The SPCA Montérégie, who receives no monetary support from the government or any other SPCA in the Province, relies solely on donations, paid the bill.
SPCA Montérégie Dogwalk

If you support the work the SPCA Montérégie does, come show us that you

care by attending our annual dog walk at the St. Lambert Seaway Park on

Riverside Drive on September 7th.

Registration starts at 10 a.m., with a minimum of $25 in pledges; you will be

able to feed over 10 dogs at the shelter for one day! Raising $75 and over you will

get a free SPCA Montérégie T-shirt, the money will go towards getting one female dog spayed or two males cats neutered. $150 will pay for the investigation into one case of animal cruelty. Three top prizes will be given out to the participants who raise the most money! Pledge forms can be picked up at vet clinics; animal food stores in Montreal; the South Shore and its surrounding areas. Or simply print one from the SPCA Montérégie website. www.spcamonteregie.com

The whole family will enjoy a full day’s worth of activities at the SPCA Montérégie Dog Walk. Coeur Canine will do a free-style routine in the morning, a pizza brunch will be available for a small monetary fee and there will be a pet blessing in the afternoon. We walk rain or shine, so come prepared! SPCA Montérégie dogs will be available for adoption as well. It doesn’t matter if you have a dog to walk or not; you just need a love of animals to come! Together we can help the innocent animals who cannot help themselves.
