Sonia Johnson to perform at the Elgar Centre
On Friday, February 23
On Friday, February 23, at 8 p.m. singer Sonia Johnson will be performing at the Elgar Centre (260 Elgar), at 8 p.m.
Her delicate jazz vocals will be accompanied by pianist Luc Beauregard, bass player Frédéric Alarie and drummer Camil Belisle. She will be performing songs from her album "Don't Explain", as well as other jazz standards. Her album, which was unveiled in May of 2005, was extremely well received by critics and music lovers alike. Her live performances are also not to be missed, as she seduces the audience with her energy, her scatting and her humour. She has been known to go from one jazz style to another effortlessly, going from a bossa-nova to a ballad at a moment's notice.
Originally from Mauritius, Sonia studied classical song in her teens and pursued her college studies in music at Vincent d'Indy. Over the years, she has amassed an inordinate amount of experience and in 2001 she even performed a show at Dubai, in the United Emirates. In the summer of 2006, she performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
This is a show that promises to hit all the right notes. Once again, it takes place on Friday, February 23. For more information, you can call 514-765-7270.
